Technology influences teachers in the classroom by providing them with teaching materials for their classroom. It helps the teacher by allowing them to see, in a more anonymous way, which students need more help with certain subjects, it gives them an easy way to give lessons, and they can communicate to their students outside of the classroom when a student needs help. Students' lives are influenced by technology in the sense that technology can help break down lessons that a student needs help with, or it can help a more advanced learner get ahead in school. It can help them learn different ways to solve a problem, or it can be a quick and easy way to research for a project. Those are just a few of many, many influences to technology in the classroom.
The ISTE standards create a way to help teachers teach and students learn through technology. It is meant to help guide us and find the most efficient way to run a classroom.
The designer standard stood out to me the most because I, personally, learn more when I can look at what I am learning. Therefore, I believe that design is my strongest suit because through images, videos, or infographics, I can share my knowledge to others in a way I can relate to.
I think I need to work on analyst. I've never been good with handling data (I barely passed statistics to give you an idea). However, I hope this class will help me overcome that.
To be a digital native means that you are a person who was born in the generation of technology, meaning you grew up on it, you use it in your everyday life, and you don't really know what it is like to live without it. I was born in 1997, which was right around the time technology started to really take off, so I am a digital native, along with most people in the millennial generation. When I see my teachers, who are digital immigrants, having issues with their technology I try to help them because I usually do know how to find a solution to their issue. It never really put a negative impact on my studies but it would be frustrating at times as we (the students) would sit and wait for the problem to be resolved by the IT worker and we would be wasting class time. I can't say that I won't go through the same issues with my students though. Technology is constantly changing and upgrading, and by the time I'm 24 and a teacher, the programs that schools use could change completely and then I will be the one delaying valuable class time to figure out how to work the new systems, or my students will be schooling me on how to fix whatever issue the computer is having.
We won't be spending much time on data analysis in this course. However, I would be happy to discuss this with you and give you some resources if you are interested.
