Adaptive Technology for Diverse Learners

Last class I learned about all different types of ways students with disabilities can still learn and participate in school though adaptive technology. I learned about how they can use technology with reading when they have a visual or speech impediment, and I learned about how they can write when they have a physical disability. I learned more about adaptive technology in a more personal sense because my classmates were able to explain its different functions in a way the textbook didn't. I learned, through the Diigo assignment, the different ways technology can be used to help out students with disabilities and the definition of an exceptional learner, and how technology can also help ELL students!

Adaptive technology helps people with a disability perform tasks like reading and writing. In  Chapter 4 of our textbook, we learn about many different types of adaptive technologies. Word processing software, recorded (audio) books, and input and output devices are just the beginning. I have used audio books to listen to when I have long car rides, and that helps me fight motion sickness, but I do not know someone personally that has a disability and uses adaptive technology. A challenge that might arise in having adaptive technologies in the classroom is if the technology is glitching, or not working, then the student may not be able to use it as needed. I would use the Remember level in the classroom by having review PowerPoints and possibly making a Jeopardy! presentation where students can team up and compete while reviewing information before their test. I would use the  Understand level in PowerPoint by using different examples of a topic in the presentation, like i...

Using twitter in an educational form has helped me learn ways to talk more professionally, even if it's on social media, it's still just as important to be professional. I've found many different articles about education in America and it has kept me up-to-date in what's happening in our department of the government. The biggest issue with the twitter assignment I have is actually remembering to tweet more than once a week, and trying to not do everything all at once. I have had to create websites for classes in the past and I am not particularly a fan. I would not create a whole new website for my class, I would use a website that is already set up like Edmodo. In the future, I would recommend to not have this assignment. My reasoning is that we are already creating a website through blogger and in other required classes at FSU like ENC2135, we are creating a website in that class as well so student's (at FSU at least) are already learning how to create a websit...

My ILP project is the Technology Toolbox option, and my tool is Edmodo, which is used for communication between teachers, students, and parents. https://adminmyfsu-my.sharepoint.com/personal/kk16k_my_fsu_edu/_layouts/15/guestaccess.aspx?docid=1dc9bcd1b69aa4724850e4c6b03ca44e5&authkey=AYep8259nXEpid8a8fYvPQo

Contrast:  The page has a plain white background with black font, so yes, there is contrast. Repetition:  Yes, she used the same font, size, and color, throughout the website. Alignment:  Yes, all of the content on the website is left-justified. Proximity:  Yes, the images on the page are together instead of scattered all throughout the website, the information is assigned to a certain page depending on the topic. For my school website, I decided to look at the page for my old elementary school. I could not find specific class pages but I did find lots of tips for parents and school documents like the code of conduct, dress code and attendance policy, before/after school care program, and many other forms. There is a "Contact Us" page for parents where they can place a request to get in contact with the school faulty and administrators, or they can call the phone number provided at the bottom of the home page to reach the front office. The school's name is Pelican Elementary School and is a K-5 school with pre-k day care. http://pel.leeschools.net/parent-portal Spreadsheets for grading, Microsoft office for productivity, email for communication, and a class blog are some mediums I would use to have a more successful and technological classroom. Even though Diigo is a common way of bookmarking and annotating websites for this class, I don't think...

Blog Post 5

The podcast listed off some Web 2.0 tools that I think would be very helpful in the classroom like YouTube, class blogs, Wikis, and Diigo. Class blogs and YouTube are the most helpful in my  opinion because on a Wiki site, anyone can add or change the information and I don't want to give my students information that is not credible, and at this point in time I am still trying to learn Diigo. It is a little overwhelming for me at the moment but hopefully through our class assignments I can master it and use it effectively in the classroom once I am a teacher. Class blogs sound like they would be very helpful to me as a teacher so that I can communicate with my students. When I was in high school we used class blogs like Edmodo for teachers and students to communicate and the teachers were able to upload files for homework, study guides, and other document we needed for class. You can access Edmodo through this link  https://www.edmodo.com . I really...

It was a slow start for me to keep up with my Twitter account because I wasn't fully aware of what I was supposed to be doing, but once I stayed after one class to clarify and then once I started to actually tweet out and follow people I understood what the assignment was asking us to do. I have been following Education Weekly and responding to their tweets most often, and I have found they have several articles with very interesting points about American education. Twitter would be a good way to get up to date news on education once I become a teacher, as long as I am following a credible source and not just  random accounts (or the Onion). Digital Divide affects the students who are not able to do their work at home because they do not have computers, this could mean they do not have the same knowledge and computer skills that someone who has full access to up-to-date technology would have. Usually the cause for digital divide is the split between students wh...
