Resource Critique Activity

http://www.cpalms.org/Public/PreviewStandard/Preview/5883 (link to lesson plan) I would like to teach either grades 3, 4, or 5, and for this assignment I chose 5th grade. The standard I chose was LAFS.5.SL.1.2 which says "Summarize a written text read aloud or information presented in diverse media and formats, including visually, quantitatively, and orally." And my favorite lesson plan of the ones listed has the teacher teacher the students about natural disasters. As the Teacher in the situation I would ask the students to choose a natural disaster of the ones I just taught them (tornadoes, hurricanes, floods, wildfires and severe thunderstorms) and to use internet search engines to research possible damages from those disasters and how to prevent them. From there, the students will come up with a family preparedness plan (shopping list for emergency items/survival kits, what to do if the power goes out, evacuation routes, etc). The Standards and Technology Matrix s...

I feel as if I am most prepared for the "Producing" Tech Standards, because I have dealt with any forms of design in technology whether it's creating videos and presentations, PowerPoints, and the Newsletter assignment in our class has also taught me ways to use design in Word. Some of the "Consuming" Tech Standards seem like they would be a little harder for me to understand, like the RST.7 where I have to make charts and tables from interpreting quantitative data. Math and science are my toughest subjects so collecting data and teaching it to students would be a little difficult for me. Class DoJo, Collaborize Classroom, and Poll Everywhere are just a few of the internet websites and tools that I would consider to incorporate into my classroom. It is important for students to know the guidelines of Digital Citizenship and what those guidelines mean, like how "netiquette" says to be respectful and to avoid cyberbullying and to come to the aid ...

I've had access to MicrosoftWord for a long time. When I was a kid, I used it to write plays for my friends and I, or I would pretend I was writing a very important document, when actually I had no idea what it was I was writing. As I grew older, my reasons for its use became much more academic. Now, I use it for class notes, essays, and planning & organizing. My teachers would use it to make handouts and flyers for class assignments and homework, syllabi, and lesson plans. As a future teacher, it appears that I will be using this medium for a long time and for just about the same reasons as I use it now. I've known about copyright for as long as I can remember. In elementary school, and every year afterwards, we were told to not plagiarize. I honestly haven't dealt with fair use in a way I can remember, but reading the article did inform me on how it is different from copyright and the specific policies it covers. As I teacher, I understand that I will need...

Technology influences teachers in the classroom by providing them with teaching materials for their classroom. It helps the teacher by allowing them to see, in a more anonymous way, which students need more help with certain subjects, it gives them an easy way to give lessons, and they can communicate to their students outside of the classroom when a student needs help. Students' lives are influenced by technology in the sense that technology can help break down lessons that a student needs help with, or it can help a more advanced learner get ahead in school. It can help them learn different ways to solve a problem, or it can be a quick and easy way to research for a project. Those are just a few of many, many influences to technology in the classroom. The ISTE standards create a way to help teachers teach and students learn through technology. It is meant to help guide us and find the most efficient way to run a classroom. The designer standard stood out to me the most becau...
